Family Medicine and Its Dark Future

"According to the Health Insurance Fund's forecast, nearly 300 doctors, or 40 percent of current family doctors, may retire in the coming years. As of autumn 2023, over 70 new family doctors are needed who are ready to become clinic owners," - what a shortfall. I am a young resident who speaks multiple languages, and honestly, I would only consider becoming a family doctor if I knew that I would have help coming from abroad. This is far more important than salary and fee increases, as I do not want to take on responsibilities if I know I won't find others for my team. Estonia needs to start bringing in doctors from elsewhere and changing language standards to keep the system sustainable.
